I'm Tina McGeough, a Registered Dietitian, public health professional, and nutrition educator with more than 20 years of experience across clinical care, public health, community health, maternal health, diabetes education, healthcare leadership, and retail nutrition. As a proud Latina and Spanish-speaking health professional, I bring a culturally inclusive, body-respectful perspective to my work. My approach recognizes that nutrition is shaped by much more than what's on the plate. It is influenced by culture, family, access, resources, health, and everyday life.
A Career Across Nutrition, Healthcare & Community Health
My career began in clinical and community health, where I developed my expertise as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist at the Institute for Family Health. I later continued my work in healthcare leadership and community health, including roles as Clinical Director at the Institute for Family Health, Senior Vice President of Quality & Training at CHW Cares, and Community Health Worker Supervisor and Trainer with Harlem Health Advocacy Partners. These experiences expanded my work into diabetes and nutrition education, program development, quality improvement, strategic planning, workforce development, staff training, clinical partnerships, and healthcare service delivery.
Bringing Nutrition Into Everyday Life
Today, I work as a dietitian in retail, developing and supporting nutrition and wellness initiatives that connect food, health, and community engagement. My work includes culinary nutrition education, customer and associate education, supermarket tours, diabetes programming, health and wellness events, and partnerships with healthcare and community organizations. Retail nutrition has strengthened my understanding of the connection between nutrition recommendations and the everyday food decisions people make.
Areas of Expertise
My experience spans family and children's nutrition, prenatal and maternal nutrition, gestational diabetes, diabetes management, perimenopause and menopause. I also specialize in culinary nutrition education, healthy relationships with food and bodies, intuitive and body-respectful nutrition, food access, health equity, and community health. My professional background includes nutrition program and curriculum development, health education, group facilitation, staff training, workforce development, and healthcare and community partnerships.
Education, Credentials & Professional Contributions
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Nutrition & Dietetics from New York University and a Master of Public Health in Nutrition from Hunter College. I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), and Spanish-speaking health professional. My professional contributions have included speaking and writing, volunteering with the American Diabetes Association to support Latino-focused diabetes initiatives from 2007–2014, and involvement with the Latino and Hispanic Dietitians and Nutritionists Association (LAHIDAN) from 2007–2014. I also served as a panelist on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee to Review the WIC Food Packages.
